The history of Circula begins in 1955 with Heinz Huber in Pforzheim, the watchmaking heart of the Black Forest. Today, over 60 years later, Circula is producing high-quality watches in the third generation, making it one of the oldest watch microbrands in the world.

    Beginning and foundation of Circula

The watch tradition of the Huber family dates to 1926 and started with the foundation of the watch and jewelry wholesaler Huber & Co in Pforzheim.

In the general mood of optimism of the 1950sHeinz Huber also decided that he wanted to try something new. He no longer wanted to only trade watches and jewelry, but also to design and manufacture watches of his own. He then realized this plan in 1955 and founded the watch brand Circula, which he named after the circulation of the balance wheel in mechanical movements.

In the past: Sales through specialist dealers

Since it was founded in the 1950s, the mechanical Circula watches, as part of the Huber & Co wholesale range, have been sold through specialist watch shops, primarily in Germany.

In the so-called quartz crisis of the 1970s, mechanical watches were pushed out of the market in favor of cheaper quartz watches, and the Circula brand also moved more into the background of the family business activities. From the successful time before the crisis, you can still regularly find amazing vintage Circula watches on the known platforms. In the eighties, Circula also increasingly switched to quartz watches. Mechanical watches became the exception, but then already had high-quality movements from Switzerland.

2017: Realignment of Circula with focus on direct sales

Circula experienced a renaissance through the founder’s grandson, Cornelius Huber. His parents gave him the first Circula watch from 1955 for his wedding, equipped with a hand-wound movement from PUW Pforzheim. Always enthusiastic about watches, he decided that day to take on responsibility for Circula and to advance the brand as an independent company. In line with technological developments, he focused on direct sales via an own online shop. This development enables Circula to offer high-quality watches at fair prices and to be in direct contact with interested parties and buyers. The direct contact also makes it possible to involve the global watch community in the development of new models. An approach that Circula has successfully implemented in several projects since 2020, to the delight of all those involved.
